Pomona Concert Band's Last Four 2024 Summer Concerts
Dear Friends of the Pomona Concert Band and Supporters,
The Pomona Concert Band has four concerts remaining in its 77th Annual Summer Concert Series that is held at the G. Stanton Selby Bandshell, behind the Community Center building in Ganesha Park, 1575 North White Avenue, on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. The concerts will include Thursday evenings August 8, 15, 22 and 29 plus one bonus concert. The band is sponsored by the City of Pomona. All performances are free to the public, so bring you lawn chair, visit the band's concession stand or bring your picnic basket, and enjoy an evening of music.
On Thursday August 8th the band will present our fifth concert titled "Concert in the Park" directed by Kerry Kline and MC'd by Linda Taylor. Kerry's choice of music will include "Flourish for Winds," "Voices of the Sky," "As Summer Was Just Beginning," "Wayfaring Stranger" and Sousa's "The Fairest of the Fair."
On Thursday August 15th the band will present a concert titled "A Night With John Williams" directed by Linda Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline and MC'd by Steve Lustro. The concert will feature music written by the great John Williams. Selections will include "Olympic Fanfare and Theme," "Symphonic Suite Star Wars III," March from "1941," "Harry Potter, The Chamber of Secrets" and "Superman."
For concert number seven on Thursday August 22nd the band will present "Linda's Favorites" directed by Linda Taylor and MC'd by Columnist David Allen. Music from our library that Linda has chosen will include "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" featuring the LOW instruments of the band, "Rise of the Firebird," "Phantom of the Opera," "Land of Liberty" and "The Standard of St. George" by Kenneth Alford.
The Pomona Concert Band will present their special bonus concert when we host the Golden State British Brass Band at a special time and date on Sunday August 25th at 6:00 p.m. in the G. Stanton Selby Band Shell. Conductor Jack Hollander will take the brass band through a wide variety of British band music along with many American favorites. They have been a crowd favorite in the past Don't miss this great addition to this year's concert schedule!
The Pomona Concert Band's final summer concert on Thursday August 29th is titled "Music That Makes America Great" and will feature music written by American composers or that was written to celebrate our country. Included in the program are "1812 Overture," "Fantasy on Early American Tunes," "Irvin Berlin Showstoppers," "Gershwin on Broadway," "Armed Forces Salute" and will close with John Philip Sousa's "Semper Fidelis." The MC for the evening will be Mayor Tim Sandoval. Lots of great music for your enjoyment to close out the band's 2024 Summer Concert Series.
This year promises to be the best summer of music yet, so please join the Pomona Concert Band for their 77th season of Music in the Park representing the City of Pomona.

Pomona Concert Band 2024 Summer Concert Series
Dear Friends of the Pomona Concert Band and Supporters,
The Pomona Concert Band announces its 77th Annual Summer Concert Series to be held at the G. Stanton Selby Bandshell, behind the Community Center building in Ganesha Park, 1575 North White Avenue, on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. starting July 11th. The band is sponsored by the City of Pomona. This year the series will include eight Thursday evening concerts with the finale on August 29th plus one bonus concert. All performances are free to the public, so bring you lawn chair, visit the band's concession stand or bring your picnic basket, and enjoy an evening of music.
The Pomona Concert Band is under the baton of Linda W. Taylor, Conductor and Musical Director, and Assistant Directors Dr. Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline. Band members come from Pomona and more than twenty surrounding communities to make music together. The Pomona Concert Band was founded by G. Stanton Selby in 1947 as part of a local Pomona American Legion Post. The Band has represented the City of Pomona in countless events and performances over the years, including tours of Europe and Japan in 1985 and 1988. The band represented the city in April 2015 with a stellar performance at the Association of Concert Bands Convention in Sacramento, California.
The opening concert on Thursday July 11th is titled "Musical Masters, Past and Present" and will feature music from past music masters and selected new upcoming composers. The band will be directed by Linda Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline. Paula Lantz will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening that will include "Overture to Candide," "Fanfare and Allegro," "Of Heroes and Demons" and features Tuba Soloist Stephen Klein performing "Largo Al Factotum" by Gioacchino Rossini.
The band will show that PCB's Got Talent during our second concert on Thursday July 18th with a concert titled "Movie Madness" that will feature many of our regular band members conducting pieces chosen from famous Hollywood movies. We are very fortunate to have these talented individuals in our band and we want to give them a chance to shine. We will feature band member conductors Fiona Karbel who plays trombone, bassoonist Carly Miller, trumpeters Christopher Northrop, Liza Zumbrunnen and Denny Duran-Flores, percussionists Lucas Critchfield and James Thompson, and David Schaafsma from the tuba section.
"Songs of Influence" will be the theme for the third concert on Thursday July 25th, directed by Dr. Jorge Garcia and MC'd by Linda Taylor. Music that was written for special events or of ground breaking nature will include "A Festival Prelude," Music from "The Prince of Egypt," "Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah," "Finale from Second Symphony for Band" and Dr. Garcia's "March for a Marine."
The fourth of the band's summer concerts will be Thursday August 1st with the theme of "Musica de America Latin," directed by Linda Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline and MC'd by Debra Martin. The concert will feature latin music from the band's library and includes "Mexican Folk Fantasy," "El Relicario," "Granada," "Solamente Una Vez" and "Gaucho Carnival."
On Thursday August 8th the band will present our fifth concert titled "Concert in the Park" directed by Kerry Kline and MC'd by Linda Taylor. The Pomona Concert Band proudly presents their annual Spring Concert titled "Musical Masters, Past and Present" on Friday, May 17th, 2024 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be held in the Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Hwy in Pomona and is sponsored by the City of Pomona. The concert is to be directed by Linda W. Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Paula Lantz, and the color guard will be headed by Heriberto Feliciano, USAF, Retired. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The concert is FREE to the public.
Our Spring Concert will feature music from past music masters and selected new upcoming composers. We are also proud to feature Tuba Soloist Stephen Klein performing "Largo Al Factotum" by Gioacchino Rossini. Past musical masters include Leonard Bernstein and his "Overture to Candide," "Fanfare and Allegro" by Clifton Williams, and three marches by John Philip Sousa, "Stars and Stripes Forever," "The National Game" and "The Beau Ideal."
Also featured on the program are several recent concert band arrangements by upcoming musical masters of composition, including Robert Sheldon with his "Glorious Insurrection," "Of Heroes and Demons" by Rob Romeyn, Yukiko Nishimura's "Northern Lights," and "To Dream With Open Eyes" by Steven Pyter.

The Pomona Concert Band proudly presents their annual Winter Concert titled "Meet the Band" on Friday, February 23rd, 2024 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be held in the Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Hwy in Pomona and is sponsored by the City of Pomona. The concert is to be directed by Linda W. Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be newspaper columnist and author David Allen, and the color guard will be headed by Heriberto Feliciano, USAF, Retired. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The concert is FREE to the public.
Our Winter Concert is one where we traditionally encourage our members step up and allow their talent to shine. This year we are proud to feature Fiona Karbel on the Euphonium performing "Napoli" by Herman Bellstedt, and a Clarinet Duet of Jesus Santiago & Kenny Chuang playing "Concert Piece No. 2 in D Minor" by Felix Mendelssohn.
Also featured on the program are several classic concert band arrangements including "Festive Overture" by Alfred Reed, "Chorale and Shaker Dance" by John Zdechlik, and "1812 Overture" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, arranged by Mark Williams. Contemporary works for band that will be performed include "Canterbury Chorale" by Jan Van der Roost, "Toboggan" by by JaRod Hall, "The Wolves of Alaska" by Rossano Galante, and "West Highland Sojourne" by Robert Sheldon. The band will close with "Bullets and Bayonets" by John Philip Sousa.

The Pomona Concert Band proudly presents their annual Holiday Concert titled "Sparkling Lights" on Friday, December 15th, 2023 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be held in the Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Hwy in Pomona and is sponsored by the City of Pomona. The concert will be directed by Linda W. Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval, and the color guard will be headed by Heriberto Feliciano, USAF, Retired. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The concert is FREE to the public.
The concert will include music celebrating both the Christmas and Hanukkah holidays. The numbers that the band will play will include: "Sparkling Lights" by Matt Conaway, "Russian Christmas Music" by Alfred Reed, "Christmas Is Here" by Chris Bernotas, "Christmas Exhilaration" by Sean O'Loughlin, and "Minor Alterations: Christmas Through the Looking Glass" by David Lovrien. Other holiday favorites will include "Fantasia on Little Drummer Boy" arranged by Jorge Garcia, "A New Orleans Nutcracker Suite" arranged by Michael Kamun, "Fanfare and Processional on an Old English Carol" by Robert W. Smith, the iconic "Sleigh Ride" by LeRoy Anderson, and "A Christmas Declaration" by Robert W. Smith will be our finale.

On Thursday August 10th the band will present our fifth concert titled "Choose Joy" directed by Kerry Kline and MC'd by Linda Taylor. Kerry's choice of music will include "Down a Country Lane," "Cumberland Cross," "Pie in the Face Polka," "An Irish Rhapsody" and "With Every Sunrise."
On Thursday August 17th the band will present a concert titled "Bandology" directed by Linda Taylor and the MC for evening will be Sir Edmund Fry. The concert will celebrate music written for the wind band. Selections will include "Overture for Winds," "Bandology," "Golden Jubilee," "The Falls" and "Fantasy on Jerusalem."
For concert number seven on Thursday August 24th the band will present "A Salute to Disney" directed by Linda Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline and MC'd by Columnist David Allen. As a special promotion for this concert, the Funny Business Comic Shop will be giving away Disney themed comics (e.g. Star Wars, Marvel) to the first 100 people that attend the concert that evening! Funny Business is located at 896 North Garey Ave. in Pomona. Music from Disney movies brings back many happy childhood memories, so make sure to bring your children and/or grandchildren with you to this concert. The program will feature "Snow White Overture," "Peter Pan Medley," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Fantasia 2000" and "Disney Razzamatazz."

The MC for the evening will be Columnist David Allen. Lots of great patriotic music for your enjoyment to close out the band's 2023 Summer Concert Series.

The second of the band's summer concerts will be Thursday July 20th with the theme of "PCB Member Choices," directed by Linda Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline and MC'd by Pomona City Councilman Steve Lustro. The concert will feature music chosen by the band members and includes "The Music Man," "Cascading Trumpets," "Suite of Old American Dances," and Randy Edelman's "Gettysburg."

The Pomona Concert Band will present their special bonus concert when we host the Golden State British Brass Band at a special time and date on Sunday August 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the G. Stanton Selby Band Shell. Conductor Jack Hollander will take the brass band through a wide variety of British band music along with many American favorites. The Pomona Concert Band's final summer concert on Thursday August 31st is titled "Americans We" and will feature music that was written to celebrate our country. Included in the program are "An American Fanfare," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "The Olympic Spirit," "Star Spangled Spectacular," "Armed Forces Salute" and will close with John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever." The MC for the evening will be Columnist David Allen. Lots of great patriotic music for your enjoyment to close out the band's 2023 Summer Concert Series.

Pomona Concert Band 2023 Spring Concert
Dear Friends of the Pomona Concert Band and Supporters,
The Pomona Concert Band proudly presents their annual Spring Concert titled "Fanfare and Flourishes" on Friday, May 12th, 2023 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be held in the Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Hwy in Pomona and is sponsored by the City of Pomona. The concert is to be directed by Linda W. Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be newspaper columnist and author David Allen, and the color guard will be headed by Heriberto Feliciano, USAF, Retired. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The concert is FREE to the public.
The concert will feature a wide range of music and along with featured soloists. The band will open the concert with Rimsky Korsakov's "Procession of the Nobles" and will start the second half with "Fanfare and Flourishes" by James Curnow. Two soloists will be featured during the evening in "Rhapsody for Flute" by Stephen Bulla, with flautist Alfred Barcenas, and in "Embraceable You" by George and Ira Gershwin, with tenor vocal by Isaac Gonzalez.
Other pieces to be featured on the program are "Selections from West Side Story" arranged by W.J. Duthoit, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morton Lauridsen, "In Joyous Flight" by Patrick Rosell, "Pineapple Poll Suite" by Gilbert and Sullivan, "At the Movies with Danny Elfman" arranged by Justin Williams, and "Glory of the Yankee Navy" by John Philip Sousa.

Dear Friends of the Pomona Concert Band and Supporters,
The Pomona Concert Band proudly presents their annual Winter Concert titled "Meet the Band" on Friday, February 24th, 2023 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be held in the Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Hwy in Pomona and is sponsored by the City of Pomona. The concert is to be directed by Linda W. Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be the ever-popular Edmund Fry of the Rose Tree Cottage in Pasadena, and the color guard will be headed by Heriberto Feliciano, USAF, Retired. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The concert is FREE to the public.
The concert will feature soloists and sections of the band. The French Horn section will be highlighted in "An American Overture" by Joseph W. Jenkins, the Woodwinds are featured in "Mock Morris" by Percy Grainger and in "The Basses Are Loaded" by Kelly Bennette, which will also shine a spotlight on the Low Brass section. Soloists are featured in "Gloriana" by Jay Bocook, with Jeff Lewis on the Organ, and in "As Time Goes By" arranged by Warren Barker, with tenor vocal by Isaac Gonzalez. Also featured on the program is a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth with "I Vow To Thee My Country" by Gustav Holst. Other pieces slated to be performed include "Fanfare from La Peri" by Paul Dukas, "Rephrygeration" by Todd Salter, "Otter Point Holiday" by Robert Sheldon, "Esprit de Corp" by Robert Jager, and "The Gallant Seventh March" by John Philip Sousa.

The Pomona Concert Band proudly presents their annual Holiday Concert titled "Christmas Around the World" on Friday, December 16th, 2022 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be held in the Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Hwy in Pomona and is sponsored by the City of Pomona. The finale to our 75th "Diamond Jubilee" Anniversary season, the concert will be directed by Linda W. Taylor, Jorge Garcia and Kerry Kline, with guest conductors Stephen Klein and Denny Duran-Flores. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Inland Empire newspaper columnist David Allen, and the color guard will be headed by Heriberto Feliciano, USAF, Retired. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The concert is FREE to the public.
The concert will include many of your favorite Christmas Carols arranged in very special ways. The numbers that the band will play will include: "Winter's Snow Fanfare" by Roger Duran and conducted by Denny Duran-Flores, "Rhythms of Christmas" by Frank Erickson, "Candlelight Carol" by John Rutter and arranged by Jay Dawson, "African Holy Night" by Robert W. Smith featuring the Percussion section, "Ukranian Bell Carol" by Richard Saucedo, and "Cowboy Christmas" arranged by Jeff Simmons. Other holiday favorites will include "The Christmas Song" by Mel Torme and arranged by Jerry Nowak, "A Christmas Celebration" arranged by Jack Bullock, "Rhapsody for Hanukkah" by Stephen Bulla and conducted by Stephen Klein, "Twas in the Moon of Wintertime" arranged by Anne McGinty, and the iconic "A Christmas Festival" by LeRoy Anderson will be our finale.
